FAQ's
Q. How long are the sessions?
A. Each session is 45 minutes long. Make sure you arrive a few minutes before each session to ensure you are ready to go straight into the warm up. There's no time for hanging around!
Q. What sort of exercises will I be doing at Gavin Walsh Boot Camp?
A. Gavin Walsh Boot Camps intend every session to be fun and challenging. Each session will comprise of stretching, callisthenics (press-ups, sit-ups, flutter kicks, etc), strength workouts using body weight, partner assisted exercises, medicine balls, running drills and some other little surprises that will get you into to the best shape of your life. And remember: the more effort you put into the sessions the better results you will get out of them.
Q. Does the camp have a military theme?
A. No. We steer clear of the military-style fitness camps as we don't like to initimidate our members! Our camp trainers are personal trainers with no military background. There will be no orders shouted at anyone. All sessions are designed to be challenging but FUN, as in our experience this gets the best results.
Q. I have never done anything like this before, will I cope?
A. Yes. You don't need to be in great shape to participate in Gavin Walsh Boot Camps. After all, it's our job to get you in shape! We train people of all shape, sizes, ages, male or female. It doesn't matter if you can do 1 press-up or 100: every exercise is tailored towards your individual ability and is scaled up in intensity throughout the course of the camp. But if you are in good shape, you won't get bored either. All of our members will be pushed to the maximum of their ability.
Q. How much weight will I lose?
A. Wrong question. You should be more concerned with how much fat you will lose rather than how much weight as muscle weighs more than fat and you will be improving your muscle tone throughout the camp. However, a good rule of thumb is to lose around 2 lbs of weight per week. Any more than this and it's probably a combination of water and muscle mass that you have lost, which will be detrimental to any long term permanent weight loss. At the beginning of each camp you should take as many measurements as possible including weight, size (dress, waist, chest, hips, and thighs), body fat percentage and even a photo of yourself. All of these will improve as long as you train hard at the camp and maintain healthy eating outside the camp.
Q. What happens if I don't show up or I miss a session?
A. There are no refunds for missed sessions. If you don't show up, we will assume you have slept in or can't make it for what ever reason and carry on with the camp session as planned. But because you will have such a great time and want the best results possible you will not miss any sessions!
Q. What do I need to bring, wear, etc?
A. You will need to bring plenty of water to keep you hydrated but will need very little else. Please note that your boot camp trainer will not be responsible for loss, damage, etc of any valuables so you are advised to keep these to a minimum or, even better, to leave them at home, safe and sound!
With regards what to wear, that depends on the weather. During cold weather a tracksuit or other similar comfortable clothing is advisable and a hat, gloves and a warm top for when the workout has finished are recommended. During warm weather a T-shirt and shorts or tracksuit bottoms will be adequate. Sensible, comfortable running shoes or trainers are essential for all weathers!
Q. Are there any showers/changing rooms available?
A. We only have showers and changing rooms for the Holborn (London) morning group. We have a partnership with Gymbox that allows our members to use their facilities after the sessions.
